The artificial cryolite is mainly used as a flux for aluminum electrolysis; it is also used as an anti-wear additive for grinding products, which can effectively improve the wear resistance, cutting, cutting force of the grinding wheel and prolong the service life and storage time of the grinding wheel.

Physical and chemical parameters

Structural form

At about 500 ° C, β-cryolite is an equiaxed crystal system, Oh3-Fm3m; a0=0.795 nm; Z=4. (NH4)3AlF6 type structure, similar to the structure of potassium sodium cryolite. Since the Na+ radius distributed in the cubic octahedron is small and cannot fill the space of the cubic octahedron, the polyhedron is tilted under the cooling condition and converted into a monoclinic system.
Orthorhombic column crystal, C2h-2/m (L2PC). Common simplex: parallel double-sided a{100}, b{010}, c{001} and oblique square s{111}. Since the {001} and {010} crystal faces are more developed, the crystal form looks like a cube. Double crystal often depends on (110). It is usually in the form of a dense block, sometimes in the form of flakes or granules.

Physical and chemical properties
Colorless, white, sometimes light gray, light brown, light red or brick red. The streak is white. Glass luster to grease luster. Transparent to translucent. No cleavage, with {001}, {110} split. Crisp. The fracture is jagged. Hardness 2~3. The relative density is 2.95~3.1.
Under the polarizer: colorless and transparent. Two-axis crystal (+), 2V = 43?. Ng = 1.3396, Nm = 1.3389, Np = 1.3385.

Use
It is mainly used as a flux for aluminum electrolysis; it is also used as an anti-wear additive for grinding products, which can effectively improve the wear resistance, cutting and cutting force of the grinding wheel, prolong the service life and storage time of the grinding wheel; flux of ferroalloy and boiling steel, non-ferrous metal flux , casting deoxidizers, alkene polymerization catalysts, as well as glass anti-reflective coatings, enamel emulsifiers, glass opalescent agents, fluxing fluxes for ceramics fillers, pesticides and other pesticides.

Application advantage
